His Biography
Gabriele Perissinotto was born in 1965 in San Donà di Piave, in the province of Venice, where he lives and works.
It is precisely the closeness to Venice, the frequent visits to museums and to the many churches of the lagoon city, that from a young age encouraged his closeness to art, especially painting.
Literally struck by Giorgione’s “The Tempest” and by Carpaccio’s large canvases, Perissinotto’s painting was initially figurative; soon, however, the figure began to dissolve, leaving room only for colour and mark.
On the occasion of his first solo show in San Donà in 2007, entitled “Landscapes of Memory”, Gianni Boato wrote: "Looking at some of his paintings, one has the impression of seeing the various natural and artistic forms appear out of nothing; they never settle into a final certainty, into an invulnerable solidity, but, vibrating, they struggle against the nothingness that surrounds them; often they seem on the verge of vanishing, they have the melancholy of a farewell on the platform of time, in the attempt to keep among us, a little longer, what is destined to go away."
For the presentation of a contemporary art group show in Genoa, Emanuela Dho says: “having abandoned the limits of form, the works of Gabriele Perissinotto outline an intimate and authentic truth, a reality to the measure of the Self which, finally freed from the chains of the present, finds its own dimension in the inconsistency of being”.
In recent years, Gabriele has rediscovered a youthful passion: photography.
In fact, many of his recent works are digital photographs, processed in various ways and printed on different materials.
In 2012, on the occasion of a solo show in San Donà di Piave, Gianni Boato replied as follows to a guest who asked where to place Perissinotto’s art: “Where do we place the art of Gabriele Perissinotto?
Gabriele is not informal, but he could be informal; he is not an abstract artist, but he could be; he tends to be figurative even if he is not strictly figurative. Gabriele is like a dowser.
Dowsers, with a wooden fork, sense water many metres deep; Gabriele, with his antennae, senses vibrations, signals, from nature, from life, and then translates these signals into images that are created in different ways depending on the meaning he feels he must give them.”
